Understandably families are expressing the wish to donate a bench in the Countesthorpe Cemetery in memory of their loved ones so they can just sit in peace and reflection. However the Parish Council now feel for the moment that adequate seating is available and have now put a moratorium on further seating for at least the coming year.
The Parish Council are looking into the possibility of extending the cemetery in the future.

Village Entry Treatment -- posted Wednesday 16th April
Leicestershire County Council have outlined some road improvements in Countesthorpe to take place within the current financial year. These are as follows -
Winchester Road - the existing central refuge between Linden Avenue and the College entry are to be removed and made into a zebra crossing with Belisha beacons. (Last year the Parish Council made it clear to the LCC Highways and Transportation Department a crossing at the College was as vital as the one for the High School. The PC then offered to help pay for the new crossing and their offer was accepted by LCC. The cost was a one off payment of £7000)
Cosby Road - gradually reducing sharks teeth road signing and a larger 30mph restriction sign (approximately) level with the allotment gardens. A 30mph Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) to be located on a new post in the grass verge to face eastbound traffic just before The Drive. Two 30 mph VAS's to be located between The Drive and The Leys to face both eastbound and westbound traffic.
Station Road - following a number of pedestrian accidents at the raised zebra crossing on Station Road near Hallcroft Avenue and Gwendoline Drive, it is proposed to install Zebrite Belisha Beacons. The Zebrite Belisha Beacons http://www.zebrite.co.uk/ are designed to highlight existing zebra crossings paricularly during the day by increasing their conspicuity to oncoming vehicles.
The Parish Council were under the impression that an additional zebra crossing was to be built opposite the shops near the Railway Pub but this is not now the case although it may be a future improvement.
Foston Road - the Parish Council are still trying to get LCC to make improvements to the village entry on Foston Road as they are fully aware of the potential for accidents at or around Glebe Gardens.
It is worth noting that the Parish Council can only 'suggest' road improvements or comment on existing plans as the LCC only has authority to make changes.
The Parish Council website continues to attract many visitors, many are welcome but some others are not. Internet users will be aware of some pretty vile messages that arrive in their emails sometimes on a daily basis. Whilst our website is well protected from this type of message by both automated and manual interception our Forum is only protected manually.
Recently we have been experiencing some pretty heavy and nasty pornographic postings so have had to switch the Forum off for a while to see if this calms things down so please bear with us as we try to overcome this particular problem. The Forum is now back but time will tell whether we can continue with this growing and informative facility so you may well experience difficulties viewing and using it as it may have to be switched off until a solution is found.
