In June 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.

Welcome to our webpage dedicated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations which will take place next summer. Please read further to see how you can take part or help out with organising celebrations in the Village.

We will keep this page up to date with useful information about the weekend’s events and, after the event, will use it to keep a record of the celebrations within the village by asking people to submit photographs of their own parties so there is a long lasting recorded memory of the celebrations in Countesthorpe.

We hope that as many people, local groups and businesses within the Village will be able to join in the celebrations.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant: A pageant featuring over 5,000 people from across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth will take place against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace and the surrounding streets. It will combine street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume and celebrate the service of Her Majesty’s reign, as well as honouring the collective service of people and communities across the country.

The Big Jubilee Lunch: People are invited to share friendship, food and fun with neighbours as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. A Big Jubilee Lunch can be big or small - street party or picnic, tea and cake or a garden barbeque. The Big Lunch provides tips and ideas for hosting an event.

IN COUNTESTHORPE - Bring along a picnic or enjoy on-site catering at our 'Big Lunch'.  Countesthorpe Academy has generously offered the use of their open spaces to allow this event to go ahead.  The event runs from 12noon to 4pm and includes music and family games organised by the Countesthorpe Scout Group.  If you would like a stall for a craft display, etc, please contact us.  It will be a great way for everyone to get back together after the past two years' restrictions.

A big thank you to Countesthorpe Academy for their support in enabling us to run this event at their grounds and for the administrative support they are giving to the organising of the Jubilee Events in Countesthorpe

Contacting Us

If you would like to get involved in any way with organising the events, are able to volunteer some time at the event, help with marshalling or are able to contribute in any other way, please get in touch with us at the Parish Council. Email manager@countesthorpeparishcouncil.co.uk or telephone 0116 2779518.

Are you planning your own street party?

You may need to apply to Leicestershire County Council to close your street/road to traffic by completing sections 3 and 4 of the Queen’s Jubilee event registration form (here is a link to the form)

All fees associated with the legal application have been waived for The Queen’s Jubilee and the application time reduced to 6 weeks, please note this is ONLY for The Queen’s Jubilee and does not apply to other events.

If you wish to apply for a road closure or any other restrictions the last date for submission is Friday 15th April 2022. Applications after this date may not be able to be fulfilled.

Given the occasion and following Government guidance we will not be asking for the usual required documentation for a road closure such as an in depth risk assessment, however consideration still needs to be given to ensure the safety of all attendees and an enjoyable event. Within the registration form you will find some additional information for you to consider. Further Government advice on road closures for street parties can be found here

Signs and cones

Leicestershire County Council Highways is offering the loan of signs and cones, should you require these please complete the signs form attached. Please be aware signs and cones must be collected from, and returned to, the LCC Mountsorrel Highways Depot. Appropriate arrangements will need to be made for collection or a quote for delivery can be requested. The deadline for your cones and signs applications is Friday 15th April 2022, after this date we cannot guarantee availability.

Please note that the fees for the loan of signs will be waived for all Platinum Jubilee events but equipment must be returned or it will be invoiced for.
