80th Anniversary of VE Day

On 8th May the Parish Council marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a service on the Centenary Paddock. The service of remembrance and reflection coincided with national events and included readings, tribute to those in the second world war, a solo performance by Hannah, a performance of songs by Musical Village, a display of flags of peace by the Countesthorpe Scout Group and young people, lighting of the lamp of peace by Mr Edward Thomas, and the service was played out by the tolling of the St Andrew’s Church Bells.

ON A CELEBRATORY NOTE…. on the Saturday there was a picnic on the park with musical entertainment from Swing-a-ma-thing and local talent LE8 Five Brass Quintet, U3A Ukulele, the Methodist Church Ringers, Rosemary Wright Accordion and the Greenfield School Choir. Fun and games activities hosted by the Countesthorpe Scouts and a Craft Tent. And refreshments were enjoyed by all. A big thank you to everyone who came along to mark this 80th Anniversary party, and also to those who took part. We will upload photographs to our website so that we have an historical record of the event.
