The rules for flying UAVs (Drones)

If you have a drone please be aware of the rules regarding flying your device around people and built-up areas.

Consequences for non-compliance could lead to prosecution and the drone being seized by Police. More importantly, the rules are there to prevent people getting hurt and failing to follow them could result in serious injury.

You must follow the Drone and Model Aircraft Code.

The Civil Aviation Authority has produced a drone rules factsheet which drone users should become familiar with.
You can find it here  https://crowd.in/kR9b6f
---------------------------------
The basic rules are:-

  • Keep 50m away from uninvolved people.
  • Make sure you know the accurate weight of your drone.
  • If 250g or more keep at least 150m away from parks, residential and built up areas.
  • If the drone has a camera or weighs 250g or more you need to register with the Civil Aviation Authority, pass a test and get a flyer ID."

But to ensure that you fly your drone legally, please refer to the following guidance:-
