CHERRY LANE DONATION FROM FIREWORK DISPLAY
PROVIDES BOOST FOR LOCAL SCOUTS
- £2500 raised for Countesthorpe Scout Troop -

Value garden centre Cherry Lane Glebe has donated £2,500 to 109th Leicester Countesthorpe Scout Troop. The funds were raised from its charity bonfire night and fireworks display which took place on 6th November.

Over 3,200 people attended the family firework display at Cherry Lane Garden Centre on Foston Road. The event has been hosted by Cherry Lane Glebe in conjunction with the scout troop since 1999 and, after a two year break due to adverse weather and COVID-19 restrictions, the bonfire night returned with a bang for 2021.

The event included a fantastic firework display, massive bonfire, refreshments and candy floss, music and a fairground for toddlers. Tickets were sold at Cherry Lane with staff lending a hand to support group’s volunteers who built, maintained and marshalled the bonfire and the team of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts who attended and also litter picked the site the following day.

Funds raised by the firework event have just been donated to 109th Leicester Countesthorpe Scouts and will be used to help ensure the troop’s exciting indoor and outdoor programme, part of the Scout’s national strategy to deliver Skills for Life, will continue for all young people who want to take part, and at as low a cost to families as possible. The money will also be used for ongoing essential hut maintenance.

Richard Durrant, manager at Glebe Garden Centre by Cherry Lane, said: “We always enjoy hosting this firework display and working with Countesthorpe Scouts to ensure a brilliant bonfire night for everyone who attends. We were delighted to be back with a bang this year after a two year break and we’re already looking forward to next year’s!”

Jack Barber, group scout leader of 109th Leicester Countesthorpe Scouts, said: “We were pleased to once again support Cherry Lane with the bonfire, ensuring its safety and success for all those who came along to enjoy it this year. After such a difficult period for everyone, it was wonderful that the event could go ahead and we are grateful to Cherry Lane for the funds raised, which will allow us to continue with ongoing essential building maintenance, while offering Skills for Life to over 100 young people through our meetings, camps and events.”
